The walk took place in Northeast Florida’s Fort Clinch State Park. Their natural canopy of trees was a perfect setting to get in a 5K before the day grew too warm on Amelia Island. Children volunteered to pass out cups of water while Pirates gave out beads to participants as they walked, ran, jogged and strolled past.

Volunteers from organizations such as Amelia Island Runners, Road Runners Club of America, Weight Watchers and the Fernandina Pirates Club pitched in and created a delightful morning.

The crowd was larger than anticipated. Walking is a great way for people of all ages to lose weight and tone muscle.

Here is the video of the 2011 Weight Watchers Walk It Day in Fernandina Beach, Florida:

I want to thank everyone at Warrior Vacations, Amelia Island Plantation, and specifically… the person(s) who gave us the opportunity to go and spend a weekend in paradise. It was a much needed break from reality for our family. In the past year, we have had to send my husband away to war, then bury my father and grandmother. This time gave us a few days to STOP and BREATH for the first time in 10 months, and for that I am forever in your debt. And you will be forever in my heart as angels! It had been a long time since I had seen my daughter smile and say she was having fun, and this past weekend, I saw and heard those words I longed for. I also got to hold my husbands hand and actually FEEL him there with us.

Thank you so very much for everything and I hope that many more other military families can partake of such a welcomed program you are offering!

With many hugs and prayers heading your way,

Sincerely,
The Mallick Family

Thanks so much for a great week on Amelia Island. The time to be together after a long deployment and hectic job was very beneficial to the entire family.

I can’t say enough good things about everyone at Warrior Vacations, the Memorial United Methodist Church in Fernandina Beach, and the staff at Amelia Island Vacations. Everyone was great and made us feel so special.

A heartfelt thanks to those great Americans who offer up their properties for our service members and families. Our place was absolutely wonderful and we are blessed to have nice people to open it up to us for a special and memorable spring break.

My family and I had the awesome opportunity to take advantage of one your vacations so generously offered. We just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the owners of the property we spent our time in. This was an unexpected gift that we stumbled upon, and it was a much needed vacation. It is so nice to know that there are generous, giving, and kind-hearted people still left in this world.

We endured a lot stress and worry while Brian was deployed to Afghanistan, however, we are grateful for the experience. Mainly because it taught us the importance of family and good friends, but also, it gave us an extreme sense of pride and honor for our wonderful country!

Again, we want to say thank you for honoring us with your generous gift, and for taking the time to say thank you to a service member. It will never go unappreciated and unrecognized. God bless you and thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Brian, Kiley, Abigail and Allie M.

PS: Attached are a couple of pictures. One is of our girls on the beach while on vacation. The other is a picture taken the night Brian returned home from Afghanistan. We all look a little tired and rough, but that was due to the fact that it was 3 in the morning!!

Dear Wendy and Warrior Vacations,

It is hard to believe that it is nearly December and close to the anniversary of my husband’s return from Afghanistan. He came home to us right before Christmas, and after all the hoopla of the holidays and the visiting of the relatives, we had to throw ourselves into preparing for a move from Virginia to Georgia. I had planned for us to take a week at Myrtle Beach, but that was before we knew we were moving. We did go, but my poor husband had to drive down to Georgia first to get the new house keys, and he had to interrupt our vacation to go back down to open the house for the movers. We cut our week short so that we could have a day in the new house before he began his new job. Instead of having a quiet, relaxing time together, our vacation was filled with the stress of moving.

My husband’s job is very demanding, and it is hard for him to “get away.” His GI-Blackberry is always buzzing and ringing with emails and pressing phone calls. The few times he has taken a day off, urgent matters have not only interrupted our plans, but have soured his mood. Urgent matters are rarely good matters!

I was so happy to hear about Warrior Vacations and hoped that we could have the family time we had not had since he returned from his deployment. My husband left his Blackberry on his office desk, and only two people knew his private cell phone number. Without the constant stream of email updates, my husband was able to forget about work and truly relax. His office did call once, but it was with good news about the success of a project. That call could have waited, but I am happy that the person thoughtfully knew it would make our day even better.

We did not want to leave Amelia Island. We had so much fun watching the sun rise every day, playing in the sand, swimming in the pool and visiting the local area. Most importantly, we enjoyed being together as a family without the interruptions of school or work or housekeeping. We are very grateful to Warrior Vacations and especially to the owner of the villa where we stayed. Thank you for a family vacation we will not forget.

And I am very sorry that this note took so long. I wasn’t sure where to send one, and then I was overcome by a busy life with six children and various activities. Although this note is delayed, our gratitude for the time at Amelia Island is sincere and oft recalled.

Thank you again, and may God bless your work.

Sincerely,
Michelle R.

A sincere “thank you” to you and the other generous individuals, and organizations, that make Warrior Vacations possible. You provide a very real and valuable way to support troops and their families and we genuinely appreciate all your efforts. By providing the time and place for our family to reconnect and recharge after the separation and challenges of my most recent Afghanistan deployment, you gave us the opportunity to strengthen our family’s bonds.

We had a wonderful time at the Hampton Inn and on Amelia Island. Our family was warmly welcomed by the staff at the Hampton Inn and the location was perfect. It was great to be just a few steps from the island’s beautiful beach and restaurants. We also enjoyed participating in the Amelia Island Turkey Trot and visiting Fort Clinch State Park.

We are profoundly appreciative of Warrior Vacations for the way you honor service members and their families! It was wonderful to meet you and we were grateful for your personal efforts to make sure we were settled in and knew about some of the community events and opportunities. Thank you.
